As of June 29th,2012 The Federal has put pause on the program upon to January 2013. Currently the program is under revision and no new applications will be accepted for processing. A new program and eligibilty criteria under this catagory will be announced in Januray 2013

Description of the program prior to June 20, 2012:

The Federal Immigrant Investor Program is an accelerated processing program designed to rapidly issue a permanent resident visa to eligible foreign investors. There are no age or language restrictions, and no conditions are placed on the investor upon entry to Canada.

To qualify you must have alone, or with your accompanying spouse, net assets of at least $1,600,000 CAD that was obtained legally, have at least two years experience managing at least five full-time employees within the last five years, and agree to make an investment of $800,000 CAD with the Government of Canada. The investment of $800,000 CAD is guaranteed by the Government of Canada and will be reimbursed after five years and two months without interest.

A one-time financing fee of approximately $180,000 CAD which is paid to a government-approved financial institution, and which will not be reimbursed, can be substituted for the investment of $800,000 CAD. The government-approved financial institution finances the difference and then invests $800,000 CAD with the Government of Canada on your behalf. The one-time financing fee is particularly attractive because you can avoid having to liquidate your assets or use funds you could otherwise invest in other business opportunities.

The following selection factors are also taken into account:

• your education
• your business experience
• your age
• your ability in English or French
• your adaptability

The Federal Immigrant Investor Program is now closed as 700 complete applications have been received by the Government of Canada. The cap will reset on July 1, 2012. The cap does not apply to the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program.

A maximum of 700 new Federal Immigrant Investor applications will be considered for processing by the Governement of Canada each year. For the unique purpose of calculating the cap, the cap year will begin on July 1 and end on June 30. Subsequent years will also be calculated from July 1 to June 30. Therefore, if you qualify as a Federal Investor it is important to act quickly and file your application before the annual limit is reached. Once the cap of 700 new applications is reached any new applictions received thereafter will be returned.
