60% of Foreign Healthcare Pros employed in their field of study in Canada

Statistics Canada reports that 58% of internationally educated healthcare professionals (IEHPs) in Canada find work in their field, though this lags behind Canadian-educated counterparts. With 500,000 healthcare workers set to retire soon, IEHPs are crucial.

Half of IEHPs arrive between ages 25-34, 7 in 10 are women, and 2 in 3 are under 50. Ontario hosts most IEHPs, mainly from Asia.

Nursing is the top field, followed by physicians. Licensing hurdles persist, but Nova Scotia and Ontario ease them. IRCC offers Express Entry incentives for healthcare workers.

In summary, while IEHPs make valuable contributions to Canada's healthcare, addressing licensing challenges and expanding opportunities can help alleviate labor shortages.
