There were 462,000 job vacancies across Canada in the first quarter of 2018, with Quebec reporting the largest year-over-year increase for the three-month period, according to new figures from Statistics Canada. Job vacancies in Quebec were up by 25,000 in the first quarter of 2018, an increase of 37 percent over the first three months of 2017. The new data show job vacancies rising across most provinces, industrial sectors compared to the first quarter of 2017. The new Regulation Respecting Immigration to Québec (RIQ) was drawn up by the Government in order to improve Québec’s actions with regard to immigration and foster the full participation of immigrants in the development of Québec and its regions. The new regulation will enter into force on August 2 and will allow the full deployment of the Act respecting immigration to Québec. Today marks the first day of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program’s new Expression of Interest system for its Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories. The move to an Expression of Interest system brings an end to the first-come, first-served model that Saskatchewan had used for these two International Skilled Worker sub-categories, which shut the door to many qualified applicants who couldn’t get their applications in on time. Canada refused more than a quarter of all temporary resident visa applications in 2017 — and 30 percent in the first three months of 2018, the Globe and Mailnewspaper is reporting. The report, published July 8, is based on data obtained by the Globe and Mailfrom Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that show both the number of Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications for purposes including tourism, school, business, conferences and family visits — and the number of refusals — increasing significantly since 2012.
