Canada Ranks 2nd Happiest in G7 for 2024

The 2024 World Happiness Report (WHR) identifies Canada as the second happiest country within the G7, only surpassed by some nations in the European Union. This annual report, produced collaboratively by Gallup, the University of Oxford's Wellbeing Research Centre, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, utilizes a three-year average of life evaluations from over 140 countries.

Life evaluations in the report are derived from the Gallup World Poll, where respondents assess their current life on a scale of 0 to 10.

In the overall G7 rankings for 2024, Canada is positioned ahead of the UK, the US, Germany, France, Italy, and Japan. Additionally, in age-specific rankings among G7 nations, Canada places as follows:

  • Under 30: 5th place
  • Ages 30-44: 4th place
  • Ages 45-59: 2nd place
  • 60 and above: 2nd place

Canada's favorable ranking in the WHR echoes its 2023 ranking by U.S. News, where it was also rated highly across several dimensions including Agility, Racial Equality, and Quality of Life.
