The Government of Canada announced today that it has now cleared 80 percent of its spousal sponsorship backlog. Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, made the announcement as part of a special Valentine’s Day update. Hussen said the achievement delivers on a government promise made in December 2016 to reduce the backlog by 80 percent within a year. “Just a year ago, in December 2016, there were almost 75,000 people in the spousal sponsorship backlog,” Hussen said. “As of today, more than 80 percent of those spouses in the backlog have received final decisions in their applications.” The backlog now stands at 15,000 individuals, he said. “Moving to a new country can be a difficult process, especially when...
Changes to Canada’s citizenship laws are now in effect that gives individuals facing the possible revocation of their citizenship new rights. A new study detailing the most in-demand occupations in Canada in 2018 shows business analysts, IT project managers and software engineers among the top 10. The annual study by the human resources company Randstad Canada showed business analysts in fifth place, IT project managers in seventh place and software engineers ranking ninth overall. The study looked at job openings, job placements and other data from various Canadian markets that were collected and compiled by Randstad Canada and business research consultants CEB/Gartner. “Tech continues to be one of Canada’s best job sectors, rapidly adding new jobs for developers and analysts of all kinds,” the study says. British Columbia has issued a total of 383 new invitations to candidates in a number of categories under its Skills Immigration Stream in draws that took place on January 31 and February 7. The February 7 draw was conducted under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)’s Tech pilot program which is designed to compliment B.C.’s technology sector in its efforts to recruit talent through weekly draws. In the January 31 draw, the BC PNP issued invitations to skilled workers and international graduates through the province different immigration program categories. Applicants who received an invitation to apply now have up to 30 calendar days from the date of invitation to submit a complete application via the BCPNP Online registration system....
Latest invitation round is the third in three weeks for popular Express Entry-linked stream For the third time since January 22, Ontario’s Express Entry-linked Human Capital Priorities Stream has issued invitations to apply for provincial nomination. The Human Capital Priorities Stream allows the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to search the Express Entry pool for candidates who have at least 400 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and who meet other eligibility criteria. Express Entry candidates who receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) can apply for a provincial nomination by Ontario. If successful, they get an additional 600 points toward their CRS score.
