There are a number of pathways for nurses to immigrate to Canada.

Canada was experiencing nursing shortages even before the pandemic. Ontario, for example, is planning to invest $342 million over the next five years to hire more than 13,000 healthcare workers to the province. BC has promised to provide up to $16,000 to about 1,500 internationally educated nurses to cover application fees, English language tests, and educational upgrading. Also, Quebec is investing $65 million to recruit and train nearly 1,000 nurses from francophone countries.

May 12 is celebrated as International Nurses Day in Canada, to recognize the contribution of nurses to healthcare services.

This week, Ontario, British Columbia (BC), and Manitoba have actively participated in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), inviting a significant number of candidates to apply for nominations, vital for their integration into the provincial economies.

Ontario has issued 30 ITAs under the Entrepreneur Stream and BC issued 177 ITAs in a general draw.

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 535 candidates from the Masters Graduate Stream. Candidates required a score of 35 and above.

British Columbia

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) held its weekly round of invitations on May 3. More than 178 BC immigration candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination.

In 2021, Ontario welcomed 198,000 new permanent residents, or nearly 49% of all new permanent residents in Canada.

Canada’s first PNP now nominates over 5,000 applicants a year.
