Immigration is vital to the future of communities across the country, and nowhere more so than in Atlantic Canada. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot welcomed over 12,700 newcomers across the region, strengthening our communities and helping our businesses succeed. We announced the new permanent Atlantic Immigration Program, recognizing the need to build on this success as we continue to recover from the pandemic and address labour shortages across Atlantic Canada.

Canada's job market looks good in September 2023. Unemployment is steady at 5.5%, and many people are employed. The population is growing because of immigration, which helps fill job gaps.

Two of Canada's provinces held immigration draws during the week of April 4 to 8.

This past week, Manitoba held a new Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw and BC held its weekly PNP invitation round.

Canada's Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, has approved Manitoba's request to extend work permits for certain Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. These candidates, mainly Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders, have work permits expiring in 2024 and are applying for the Manitoba Skilled Worker Program.

Canada's held its fourth Express Entry draw of the year inviting PNP candidates.

Ontario has issued 30 ITAs under the Entrepreneur Stream and BC issued 177 ITAs in a general draw.

Ontario issued 725 letters of interest to candidates in the Master’s Graduate stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 535 candidates from the Masters Graduate Stream. Candidates required a score of 35 and above.

In the latest report, job vacancies and payroll employment remain high, while unemployment sees decreases in September.

Ontario is investing $25 million more over the next three years, on top of the $15 million over three years that was announced in Budget 2022, to double Ontario’s skilled immigrant intake. The investment will work to address labour shortages and promote economic growth in the province.

Five provinces have issued invitations in the most recent round of draws through provincial immigration programs.

Canada's provincial immigration draws from March 21 to 25.

This past week, Quebec released its immigration draw results. BC held its weekly Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) round of invitations. Ontario and Manitoba also held PNP draws.

“When I travelled Ontario, it wasn’t election signs that I was seeing but it was help wanted signs in small business across our province,” McNaughton said, alluding to the recent provincial elections that saw his Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario win a second consecutive majority government. “It’s important the federal government works with us to really be laser-focused on filling labour shortages.”

A total of 127 invitations were under the Labour and Express Entry streams. Nine invitations were issued under PEI’s business impact and work permit stream with a minimum point threshold of 65. The total number of invitations for this draw is less than the most recent draw on May 20, when 153 invitations were issued.

The most recent rounds of invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) were held on July 5. More than 128 candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination in these draws. This week’s draws were aimed at specific sectors of activity.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) held its weekly round of invitations on May 3. More than 178 BC immigration candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination.
