Canada has introduced a stricter deadline for certain Atlantic Immigration Program applicants whose employment situation changes while their permanent residence application is being processed.
Applicants may now have just 90 days to provide updated documents after receiving a request from immigration officials. Missing the deadline can lead to the PR application being refused.
The rule can apply when:
- the applicant moves to a different designated employer;
- their job, wages, duties, or working conditions change significantly;
- or the company they work for changes ownership.
Depending on the situation, applicants may need a new or updated provincial endorsement and employment offer.
Previously, there was no fixed 90-day deadline and affected applications could simply remain on hold while updated documents were requested.
The Atlantic Immigration Program is available to eligible applicants planning to settle in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Prince Edward Island.
