Canada’s job vacancies reach record high in healthcare and social assistance sectors

The Statistics Canada report on payroll employment and job vacancies for August shows 152,000 vacant healthcare positions.

The lack of available staff in hospitals has led to some having to temporarily close their emergency rooms or reduce other services.

Canada relies heavily on immigration to fill the vacancies in the healthcare system. A quarter of registered nurses and 36% of physicians in Canada are not Canadian born. However, foreign-trained medical professionals can find it difficult to obtain proper licensing from Canadian.

Canada is in the process to find a solution through stakeholders to simplify the licensing process for foreign doctors who are already in Canada.

The immigration Canada is even taking further steps to attract doctors who come to Canada as a visitor to start working in Canada under the Canadian doctors supervisions and gain Canadian experience to apply for permanent Residency.
