Marc Miller Expresses Frustration Over Immigrant Blame Amid Funding Dispute

Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller voiced his frustration with people blaming immigrants for various issues, following Quebec Premier François Legault's claim that temporary immigrants are responsible for the housing crisis.

Miller emphasized that the rise in mortgage prices is unrelated to immigration. Ottawa has pledged $750 million to Quebec for asylum seeker reception, though Legault requested $1 billion and called for a 50% reduction in temporary immigrants.

Miller avoided specifying targets but highlighted efforts to address asylum distribution and called for more support from provinces like British Columbia. Government statistics show 65% of asylum claimants arrived in Quebec last year, compared to just under 2% in B.C.
