Recent Surge in PGP Immigration

Canada's Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) saw a 48.8% rise in new permanent residents in May, welcoming 3,185 individuals. This is a notable jump from April's 2,140. Despite this monthly increase, the year-to-date total of 11,115 remains 13.4% lower than last year's 12,830 for the same period.

Projections suggest 26,676 new permanent residents through the PGP in 2024, down 5.8% from last year's 28,305. Ontario led the arrivals with 5,360, followed by Alberta and British Columbia. Saskatchewan experienced the largest percentage gain at 110%.

Canada's 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan aims to admit 485,000 new permanent residents this year, rising to 500,000 in subsequent years.
