The deadline for the temporary public policy aimed at providing permanent residency to out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has been extended until December 31, 2024, or until it reaches 1,000 applications.
Launched in January 2020 to address labor market demands, this policy allows eligible out-of-status workers and their families to apply for permanent residency. Applicants must have entered Canada legally, lived in the country for at least five years, and have three years of full-time experience in the GTA construction industry. A referral letter from the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) is required for application.
This extension underscores the growing demand in the construction industry, with the policy helping stabilize the workforce and protect workers from exploitation.
