Starting September 26, Canada will stop processing Low-Wage Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) in some metropolitan areas with unemployment rates of 6% or higher.

Exceptions will be made for key sectors like agriculture, food processing, construction, and healthcare.

The government aims to prioritize Canadian workers, with limits on the number of temporary foreign workers businesses can hire and a reduced employment duration for low-wage roles. Quebec will implement similar restrictions in Montreal beginning September 3.
