Work permit holders may qualify for OHIP if they meet the following criteria:
Residency Requirements
- Physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period.
- Present for at least 153 of the first 183 days after starting residence in the province.
- Have a primary residence in Ontario.
Work Permit-Specific Eligibility
In addition to the above, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Hold a valid work permit and work full-time for an Ontario employer for at least six months (spouses and dependents may also qualify).
- Participate in the Live-In Caregiver or Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program.
- Have applied for permanent residence and received confirmation of eligibility from IRCC.
Covered Services
OHIP includes doctor visits, hospital care, medically necessary tests, and some surgeries. It excludes prescriptions, routine dental/vision care, and cosmetic treatments.
