Canada’s recent decision to remove the 50 or 200 CRS points for arranged employment has sparked discussion, but job offers remain important in the immigration process.
Many permanent residency pathways—including nearly half of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams—still require job offers. Federal programs like the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP), and Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP) also depend on candidates having employment offers from designated employers.
Beyond eligibility, job offers can lead to Canadian work experience, which remains a valuable asset under Express Entry. Candidates with just one year of skilled work in Canada can gain up to 80 CRS points, and potentially more through skill transferability factors.
While job offers no longer provide bonus CRS points on their own, they continue to open key pathways and boost a candidate’s profile through real Canadian experience—especially for those targeting the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), which has been prioritized in recent draws.
