International students applying to study in Canada will soon need to show higher proof of financial support.
Starting September 1, 2025, the minimum living expenses required for a single applicant, in addition to tuition and travel costs, will increase to $22,895, up from $20,635. This adjustment reflects Canada’s annual updates to match rising living costs.
The updated amounts apply to students in all provinces and territories except Quebec. Applicants must prove they have enough funds to support themselves and any accompanying family members while in Canada.
Updated proof of funds (effective September 1, 2025):
- 1 person: $22,895
- 2 people: $28,502
- 3 people: $35,040
- 4 people: $42,543
- Add $6,170 for each additional family member beyond seven.
Applications submitted before September 1, 2025 will continue to follow the current financial requirements.
