Healthcare Aides Remain a Priority in Canada’s Immigration Programs

Canada continues to face a nationwide shortage of nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates. With demand expected to exceed supply by more than 20,000 workers over the next decade, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has prioritized these occupations for immigration.

Through Express Entry category-based draws targeting healthcare workers, candidates under NOC 33102 can qualify with at least six months of recent, continuous work experience in Canada or abroad. Several provinces, including Manitoba, Nova Scotia, PEI, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, also offer strong opportunities through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

According to Job Bank, wages for nurse aides and orderlies range from $16 to $25.83 per hour, with a national median of $21. These workers play a vital role in hospitals, long-term care homes, and home-care settings, making them central to Canada’s healthcare system and immigration strategy.
