The latest Henley Passport Index has ranked the Canadian passport ninth among the world’s most powerful for 2025, allowing visa-free access to 183 destinations worldwide. The ranking compares 198 passports globally and is based on how many countries a holder can visit without a visa.
Canada continues to outperform the United States, whose passport has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in 20 years, now ranking 12th.

Since January 2025, Canada has dropped two spots, losing visa-free access to five destinations. However, it still holds a solid lead over the United States.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports across 227 destinations, using data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). It considers a country “visa-free” if its entry requirements include visa-free entry, visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
