Due to a large number of refugees waiting in line to enter Canada and decreasing their settlement budget, a letter was sent last November, asking to delay their arrival until 2015. However, Syrian refugees are exempted.

As the budget was lowering too much, federal government of Canada had been looking for delays in refugees arrivals.

There are too many refugees in line waiting to enter Canada but their resettlement budget is running out, so a letter had been sent to all Canadian missions asking them pause the arrival of refugees until 2015. It had been noticed in the letter that Syrian refugees were exempted from the plan.

Emina Tudakovic, a senior official at immigration headquarters in Ottawa, had written to all missions who had been handling refugee cased, “We are running into the problem of hitting up against the limit of the (resettlement assistance program) budget we can spend this year,”

Citizenship and Immigration announces that refugee resettlement budget is $54.9-million.

CIC spokeswoman, Nancy Caron, says:“When it became clear that more funds would be needed to assist the very generous movement of (government assisted refugees) last year, CIC reallocated resources from within existing reference levels to meet the needs of eligible arrivals,”.

Canada has committed to resettle 10000 refugees during the next 3 years.
