For the first time, since launching the express entry program, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued invitation to apply for Permanent residency to candidates who do not have a job offer or nomination from one of the Canadian provinces.

In near future the Selection Pool will become main source of Canadian economic immigration applications. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has provided valuable insights on the Express Entry selection system for immigration to Canada, which came into operation on January 1, 2015.

The ninth draw, which was made on Friday, May 22, 2015 resulted an issuance of 1361 invitations to apply for permanent residence to candidates in the Express Entry pool who each had 755 points or more.

There will be a cap of 5,000 complete applications accepted, the announced cap is the same number as the previous year, that opened in January, 2014. Due to the closure of the program for a few years many applicants have been waiting for the opportunity to submit their application therefore the cap was reached in just three weeks. Given that many potential applicants were not able to submit their applications last year , it is likely that the next application cycle will reach its cap as fast as last year therefore it is strongly suggested to have the applications and all required supporting documents prepared prior to the opening date. It is also important to note that applications received before January 2, 2015 will not be accepted and will be returned to the applicant.

CIC will close the files of FSW applicants who applied before February 27, 2008 , and for whom an immigration officer has not made a decision based on selection based on selection criteria by March 29th ,2012 . This is expected to affect around 280,000 applicants, including their dependents. CIC will begin the process of returning the full amount of fees paid to the department by theses affected FSW applicants. Those applicants who have passed the selection criteria stage (approximately 2000 people) CIC will continue processing their applications until they are approved for entry into Canada or not.

John McCallum Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, has said that Ottawa is looking to make changes in Canadian citizenship eligibility in order to reduce the barriers people have to overcome to become a citizen.

This form allows you to submit a claim for reimbursement of the fees payable for an application submitted under the Regular Skilled Worker Program (RSWP) before August 2, 2018 and covered by the Act to increase Québec's socio-economic prosperity and adequately meet labour market need through successful immigrant integration, which was approved on June 16, 2019.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received more than 14,000 new parent and grandparent applications since the program re-opened on January 4, 2016. Intake is now closed while we review the applications received. The first 5,000 complete applications received will be placed in the inventory queue.

Effective immediately, the Visa and Immigration Section of the Canadian Embassy in Seoul are closed.

TEMPORARY RESIDENT PROCESSING

Effactive immidiately , the visa and immigration section at the embassy of Canada in Iran (Tehran) is closed and services have been transfered to the embassy of Canada in Turkey ( Ankara). If you are in Iran and want to submit a temprary resident application, you must now apply throught the visa office in Ankara. You are not required to include your passport with your application . The visa office in Ankara will contact you if the visa is ready to be issued and make the necessary arrangements in order to faciliate this process in person. All temporary resident applications that have already been submitted will be transfered to Ankara where the processing will resume.

A new law allowing the government to revoke the Canadian citizenship of dual citizens convicted of certain serious crimes is prompting fears among some ethnic communities that they’ll be unfairly stigmatized.

On October 29, 2016, the government of Canada released a draft of a change to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), which would repeal the conditional permanent residence regulatory provisions for certain sponsored spouses and common law partners. If approved, the change is expected to come into force in spring 2017.

Latest update and court decision on Federal Skilled Worker applicant who applied prior to February 2008

The Federal Court of Appeal has upheld a decision that the government's policy banning new Canadians from wearing face-coverings also known as a niqab while taking their citizenship oaths is illegal.

The Government of Canada has put in place a bar on Spousal sponsorship. Regulatory changes now in force mean sponsored spouses or partners will have to wait five years from the day they are granted permanent residence status in Canada to sponsor a new spouse/partner. Under the new proposal, a spouse/partner being sponsored by a Canadian or Permanet resident would be required to live together with their sponsor in a legitimate relationship for two years following receipt of their permanet resident status in Canada.

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has indicated that they expect the average price of a home across Canada to decrease by 4.8% by the end of this year.

According to the proposed Removal of Serious Foreign Criminals Act, permanent residents, who convict a serious crime, will not have a chance to have deportation caused by committing crime, be reviewed anymore. They will be sent back home directly.

Canada has strict laws regarding criminal inadmissibility. If you wish to enter Canada permanently or temporarily, you may be denied entry if you or your dependents are deemed criminally inadmissible. Even a drunk driving charge, for example, can prevent you from entering Canada.
