Super Visa Program

The reopening of the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) on May 21st highlights the ongoing limitations of the program. For the fourth year in a row, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will select applicants from the 2020 pool, leaving potential sponsors from subsequent years without an opportunity. However, the Super Visa offers an alternative route for Canadians to reunite with their loved ones.

For Canadians unable to sponsor parents or grandparents through the limited PGP lottery, the super visa provides a faster, year-round alternative.

The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit their family for up to five consecutive years without renewing their visitor status. Furthermore, parents and grandparents can enter Canada multiple times with the Super Visa for up to 10 years.

If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor your parent or grandparent to come to Canada. Through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), your parent or grandparent will receive Canadian permanent residence and may eventually be able to apply for Canadian citizenship. 

The Super Visa is a unique visa allowing parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to 5 consecutive years. This multi-entry visa is valid for 10 years, eliminating the hassle of renewing visitor status frequently. It's particularly advantageous for those from countries requiring a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), as it facilitates travel between Canada and their home country without continuous TRV applications.
