By 2023, 4.4% of all immigrants settling outside of Quebec would be French-speaking under a joint federal-provincial plan. A new joint action plan uniting Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments is aiming to raise the number of French-speaking immigrants who are settling outside of Quebec.

The Government of Ontario is being encouraged to create a new immigration pilot program that would address labour needs in its northern and rural regions. Promoted by the Northern Policy Institute, an independent think tank dedicated to issues in Northern Ontario, the proposed Ontario Rural and Remote Pilot draws on existing immigration programs like the federal-provincial Atlantic immigration pilot (AIP) and Manitoba’s morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative.

A new immigration pathway for international graduates of post-secondary institutions in Manitoba is now open to Expressions of Interest from eligible candidates.

The Atlantic pilot project is a new three-year pilot program for immigration to Atlantic Canada. The program was launched on March 6, 2017.

Manitoba has announced a number of changes to its Provincial Nominee Program, including the creation of an in-demand occupations list and a new pathway aligned with Canada’s Express Entry system and the creation of a new International Education Stream.

Nova Scotia says its Provincial Nominee Program nominated a record number of immigrants in 2017. The Atlantic Canada province nominated more than 1,400 people through its 5 provincial nominee programs.

Canada’s Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen, played up the positive impact of immigrants and refugees on the country and its economy in an address this week to international immigration experts gathered in the nation’s capital city, Ottawa.

Two Alberta draws have taken place so far in April, inviting a total of 320 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

On January 18th, the Alberta added having relatives in the province to the province selection criteria.

Alberta invites 120 Express Entry candidates and BC targets tech occupations. 

Rural communities around Alberta could get a boost of around 40,000 newcomers over the next four years under policies being proposed by the province’s United Conservative Party.

So far in 2021, Alberta has invited 1,409 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

Alberta, with federal approval, has launched a 2 year pilot project on Temporary foreign workers in order to keep job positions open for local permanent residence and citizens who are living in Alberta. As part of this two-year pilot program, Albertan companies will not be allowed to avail of the temporary foreign worker (TFWP) when hiring in any of 29 high-skilled occupations.

Alberta will soon reopen its doors to applicants who wish to settle in one of Canada’s most beautiful and vibrant provinces. The province will begin accepting new applications from January 27, 2016.

A new appeal process for immigration candidates whose applications have been refused was introduced by Alberta. The new process allows candidates to submit a request for reconsideration if the grounds for their appeal are:

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program invited a total of 159 Express Entry candidates to apply for the Alberta Express Entry stream. Invited candidates only needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 352. These candidates can now apply for a provincial nomination, which will bump them to the top of the Express Entry pool.

Express Entry candidates needed a CRS score of 400 and up to receive an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination.

The 294 candidates selected needed a minimum 400 points under Express Entry’s (CRS) in order to receive an invitation.
