    The Environics Institute of Canada, in partnership with the Century Initiative, has released survey data on Canadian’s opinions on immigration. The Environics Institute is a research agency that conducts public opinion surveys and collects data on Canadian issues such as the government or economy. Century Initiative is a registered charity run by business leaders and academics that advocates for the population of Canada to reach 100,000,000 by 2100.

  • Changes to Citizenship Application Fees

    As of January 1, 2015 the cost of applying for Canadian citizenship will jump from $300 to $530. The fee increase will only apply to individuals applying for an adult citizenship grant or resumption of citizenship. The $100 Right of Citizenship fee and fees for applications for a grant of citizenship to a minor child will not change. According to the Federal Government the increase will reduce the burden on Canadian taxpayers and bring the fee closer to the true cost to process a citizenship application.

  • CIC announces 24 month moratorium on applications to sponsor parents and grandparents

    CIC has announced that as of November 5, 2011 there will be a 24 month moratorium on new applications to sponsor parents and grandparents in order to reduce the current backlog. New applications received on or after November 5, 2011 will be returned to the applicant. The moratorium will not affect sponsorship applications for spouses, dependent or adopted children, or other eligible relatives.

  • CIC announces the introduction of the new "Parent and Grandparent Super Visa"

    CIC has announced the introduction of the new "Parent and Grandparent Super Visa," which will be valid for up to 10 years. The multiple entry visa will allow applicants to remain in Canada for up to 24 months without having to renew their status. Applicants will be required to obtain private Canadian health-care insurance for the duration of their stay. The visa will come into effect on December 1, 2011.

  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has recently announced that the parent and grandparent sponsorship program (PGP) will be reopening as of January 2nd, 2015 with a limited cap.

    There will be a cap of 5,000 complete applications accepted, the announced cap is the same number as the previous year, that opened in January, 2014. Due to the closure of the program for a few years many applicants have been waiting for the opportunity to submit their application therefore the cap was reached in just three weeks. Given that many potential applicants were not able to submit their applications last year , it is likely that the next application cycle will reach its cap as fast as last year therefore it is strongly suggested to have the applications and all required supporting documents prepared prior to the opening date. It is also important to note that applications received before January 2, 2015 will not be accepted and will be returned to the applicant.

  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada is closing FSW files made prior to February 2008

    CIC will close the files of FSW applicants who applied before February 27, 2008 , and for whom an immigration officer has not made a decision based on selection based on selection criteria by March 29th ,2012 . This is expected to affect around 280,000 applicants, including their dependents. CIC will begin the process of returning the full amount of fees paid to the department by theses affected FSW applicants. Those applicants who have passed the selection criteria stage (approximately 2000 people) CIC will continue processing their applications until they are approved for entry into Canada or not.

    Effactive immidiately , the visa and immigration section at the embassy of Canada in Iran (Tehran) is closed and services have been transfered to the embassy of Canada in Turkey ( Ankara). If you are in Iran and want to submit a temprary resident application, you must now apply throught the visa office in Ankara. You are not required to include your passport with your application . The visa office in Ankara will contact you if the visa is ready to be issued and make the necessary arrangements in order to faciliate this process in person. All temporary resident applications that have already been submitted will be transfered to Ankara where the processing will resume.
