  • British Columbia is opening a new immigration pilot program to attract foreign entrepreneurs to smaller communities around the province.

  • The visa requirement for United Arab Emirate citizens travelling to Canada for short stays will end on June 5, the Government of Canada has announced. Hussen said the visa exemption will help foster new business, trade and investment opportunities, among other advantages.

  • The Province of Quebec has proposed new regulations for a number of its unique immigration programs, including the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program, or QIIP. Quebec has several immigration programs, some which allow candidates to pursue Canadian permanent residence and some which allow candidate to apply for temporary residence in Canada.

  • Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains, has overseen the announcement of several research investments. In press releases accompanying these announcements, Bains has stated, "This historic investment by the Government of Canada is a down payment on the government’s vision to position Canada as a global centre for innovation. That means making Canada a world leader in turning ideas into solutions, science into technologies, skills into middle-class jobs and start-up companies into global successes."

  • Manitoba's renewed Business Investor Stream has opened to new expressions of interest. The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) announced the stream’s opening on May 18.

  • Up to 36,700 job positions will open up over the next 15 years in the Northwest Territories (NWT), and the NWT government is looking internationally to make sure that the territory continues to build a vibrant economy.

  • The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program is now open to new applications.
    Quebec is accepting a total of 1,900 applications in this new intake period, which runs until March 15, 2019.

  • The popular Quebec Investor program (QIIP) has reopened for up to 1,900 new applications, as of May 29, 2017. The QIIP is Canada's only currently available passive investor immigration program, and throughout the years it has proven popular — the intake is expected to fill before the scheduled end date of the application cycle, February 23, 2018.
