Quebec Experience Program

The Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada have ratified an agreement to simplify the processing of applications related to hiring skilled occupations for which the local labor supply is unable to meet the demand for labor-work employers.

The government of Quebec has released a news update regarding Mon projet Québec, an online immigration application management system used by the province of Quebec to process applications under theQuebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

Quebec has announced the opening of all three provincial business programs with limited cap. The Quebec investor program 1900 cap which will be open on May 30th whereas the Entrepreneur and Self-Employed categories are reopening with immediate effect, though for only 50 applications each.

Inspired by recent federal immigration changes, Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil announced that the province will make major changes to its immigration model. In particular, the way in which the province selects, welcomes and integrates foreigners into the job market.

Effective December 6, 2011 all new Quebec Skilled Worker applicants are required to submit the results of a standardized test if they wish to obtain selection points for their French or English language proficiency. 

The maximum number of applications for the Quebec Skilled Worker, Entrepreneur, and Self-Employed Worker programs has been reached. New regulations will come into effect on April 1, 2015.

Quebec immigration is investing a further $70.3 million in improving access to French classes for ‎new immigrants as it aims to improve immigrant integration services.‎

Quebec Immigration has lowered the pass mark for the skilled worker program. This program which is set to open on or before October 1st 2015, and the province plans to receive 6300 new applications during the 2015-2016. There are 75 eligible occupations and area of training that will enable applicants to qualify for a Quebec Certificate of Selection (CSQ), without a job offer. Many applicants can qualify with minimal knowledge of French.

Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil announced that the Liberal government hopes to welcome 51,000 immigrants to the province in 2017.

The first round of application intake to the popular Quebec Skilled Workers Programme (QSWP) has been closed as the maximum number of applications had been received. A second round will be opened on 18 January 2016, said the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

The Express Entry New Brunswick Labour Market Stream has temporarily reopened to Expressions of Interest from skilled workers with work experience in software engineering and nine other occupation categories. In an update published January 30, the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) reported that the stream is opening to those with work experience in one of the 10 following priority occupations:

UPDATE: Masters Graduate Stream has now closed, PhD Graduate Stream remains open to applicants The Canadian province of Ontario reopened its Masters Graduate Stream and PhD Graduate Stream on January 29.

The April 17 a total of 324 invitations were issued to candidates who have submitted EOI profiles under the International Skilled Worker Express Entry in Demand Occupations.

The end-of-year rush on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Express Entry nominations being issued continues, with Saskatchewan having announced on December 16, 2015 that, effective immediately, 500 additional applications will be accepted under the international skilled worker of Express entry as a sub-category of the Saskatchewan provincial nominee program (SINP).Saskatchewan also announced a corresponding increase to the year’s application quota for this sub-category, from 2,500 to 3,000. As this is an enhanced immigration stream, a successful nomination will result in applicants being awarded 600 points under the ranking system (CRS) and receiving an an invitation to apply (ITA) at a subsequent draw from the Express Entry pool.

A recent study published by Statistics Canada has found that children of immigrants do better than children with Canadian-born parents in terms of socioeconomic outcomes, with children of immigrants graduating high school at a rate of 91.6%, compared with 88.8% for children who were Canadian at birth.
