Provincial Nominee Programs

Ontario has issued more than 8,000 nominations to immigration candidates this year, more than filling the number of spots the province was originally allowed.

A recent announcement from the province of Ontario may be of significant interest to candidates for Canadian immigration in the express Entry pool with close to or more than 400 (CRS) points, as well as those with adequate-intermediate or better French proficiency

Three provinces have issued ITAs under Provincial Nominee Programs.

Five provinces have issued invitations in the most recent round of draws through provincial immigration programs.

This past week, Quebec released its immigration draw results. BC held its weekly Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) round of invitations. Ontario and Manitoba also held PNP draws.

The International master graduate of the Ontario immigrant nominee program reached its intake limit the same day that it opened, on May 1, 2017. However the international PHD graduate stream, which also opened on May 1, remains open.

“When I travelled Ontario, it wasn’t election signs that I was seeing but it was help wanted signs in small business across our province,” McNaughton said, alluding to the recent provincial elections that saw his Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario win a second consecutive majority government. “It’s important the federal government works with us to really be laser-focused on filling labour shortages.”

More than 300 immigration candidates managed to register successfully in the recent opening of Ontario’s Masters Graduate Stream before a technical error brought it to a premature end.

Ottawa welcomed more than 1,100 new citizens from 122 countries this week. The citizenship ceremonies took place at 15 different locations across the city.

The immensely popular Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) is expected to reopen in January, 2016, with sponsors and candidates already preparing for what are expected to be a very short application intake period.

Immigration Canada will be accepting sponsorship applications from eligible applicants under this category as of January 3rd, 2017 with a limited cp of 10000 applications.

The province of Prince Edward Island has invited 199 economic immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in a draw held February 21.  

A total of 127 invitations were under the Labour and Express Entry streams. Nine invitations were issued under PEI’s business impact and work permit stream with a minimum point threshold of 65. The total number of invitations for this draw is less than the most recent draw on May 20, when 153 invitations were issued.

The most recent rounds of invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) were held on July 5. More than 128 candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination in these draws. This week’s draws were aimed at specific sectors of activity.

This past week, Manitoba held a special Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) invitation round for citizens of Ukraine and the BC PNP issued invitations to more than 155 candidates.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada is changing the way it assesses the language abilities of prospective new citizens. The citizenship Act already requires that applicants be able to communicate in one of Canada's official languages. This regulatory proposal would not increase the language level required, but would change the way that citizenship applicants aged 18-54 prove their language ability. Applicants would be able to demonstrate language ability by submitting a variety of evidence, including the results of a third-party test, or evidence of achieving language training in certain government-funded programs.
