Canada has strengthened its financial assessment process for study permit applications. Under the new rules, immigration officers will carefully review both the amount and the source of an applicant’s funds.
Applicants may also be asked to provide additional financial or employment documents to prove they can support themselves while studying in Canada.
Key updates include:
- Up to six months of bank statements may now be requested (previously four months).
- Officers will examine the source of all funds more closely.
- Pension and rental income are now accepted examples of financial support.
- The minimum proof of funds for the one year living expenses has not changed. A single applicant studying outside Quebec must still show $22,895 for living expenses, in addition to tuition and travel costs.
These changes are part of Canada’s efforts to ensure that study permits are issued only to genuine students with sufficient financial resources.
