IRCC will give preference to Express Entry candidates who have a strong French language proficiency or work experience in the following fields:
- Healthcare
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
So far there were two category-based Express Entry draws, in healthcare workers
- 500 invitations were issued on June 28
- 1,500 invitations on July 5th.
Another category-based draw also was held on July 5th, inviting eligible candidates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions.
There has been no Express entry category-based draw on the 10 Transport occupations in demand. According to the IRCC spoke person soon there will be a draw under this category.
There are three main eligibility criteria in the category base draw as a minimum requirments. IRCC will send invitations to This criterion includes:
- Work experience in a specific TEER category of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
- Language ability in either English or French
- Education
It is important to note that candidates CRS score will still be very central for category-based draws too. IRCC will send invitations to candidates with top ranking scores and who are also eligible for the category-based draw.
