Canada Attracts 32,000 Global Tech Workers in a Year

From April 2022 to March 2023, Canada welcomed over 32,000 international tech professionals.

Canada's tech appeal is due to its welcoming immigration policy and cost advantages. The rise of remote work, fueled by COVID-19, has shifted tech workers away from traditional hubs.

Notably, tech talent is flowing from countries like India, Nigeria, and Brazil, while U.S. tech companies are investing more in Canada due to proximity and compensation differences.

Canada's tech industry extends beyond major cities, with provinces like Saskatchewan and Newfoundland seeing rapid growth. Remote-friendly locations like Windsor, Ontario show 28% growth in tech workers.

Key skills in demand include Customer Experience, Microsoft Azure, Analytical Skills, Amazon Web Services, React.js, Jira, Data Science, GitHub, Customer Satisfaction, and Customer Relationship Management.

Top tech hubs include Mississauga, Montreal, and Waterloo, offering attractive ecosystems for tech professionals. Initiatives like the Tech Talent Strategy and Express Entry draws further enhance Canada's appeal to global tech talent.

On June 28, 2023, category-based Express Entry draws targeted science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals, aligning with Canada's push to attract global tech talent.
