  • Tech group wants new visa to allow skilled workers to enter Canada without a job offer

Canada is set to speed up the processing of certain visitor visas. This is part of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)'s new strategy, aiming to improve services for newcomers and reduce wait times.

The focus is on applicants visiting for tourism, major conferences, and events. Earlier, Canada expanded its "partial visa exempt countries" list, allowing more travelers to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA), which is processed faster than traditional visas.

This change comes as visitor visa applications have increased, with more than 260,000 processed in November 2022 alone, surpassing the pre-COVID monthly average of 180,000.
