Today, Mark Miller, Canada's Minister of Immigration, announced new restrictions for the admission of international students:

1. For a period of two years, the number of student visas issued will decrease by about 35%. This reduction will vary depending on the provinces and their populations. It is expected that in 2024, only about 364,000 foreign students will receive permission to study.

This limitation does not apply to students in master’s and Doctoral programs.

2. From September 2024, international students enrolled in private colleges will not be eligible for post-graduation work visas.

3. Starting in a few weeks, open work visas will only be granted to the spouses of students who are studying in Master's, Doctoral, and specialized fields such as medicine or law.
