  • Immigration changes make it harder for students to immigrate to Canada

On Monday Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced that the first round of top-ranked candidates from the Express Entry system have been invited to apply for permanent residence.

779 skilled workers from the industrial, electrical, and construction trades as well as professionals in the natural and applied sciences were invited to apply. Each of the candidates declared that they had a job offer or had been nominated by a province.

CIC Minister Chris Alexander issued the following statements:

“Express Entry is already getting impressive results in its first month. The fact that everyone who was invited to apply for permanent residence in this round of invitations already has a valid job offer or provincial nomination shows that Express Entry is working to fill Canada’s existing labour market gaps.”

“With Express Entry, highly skilled candidates with a high chance of success in Canada are invited to apply for permanent residence, bringing them to Canada more quickly and easily than ever before.”

The draw is good news for skilled workers wishing to immigrate to Canada. CIC intends to conduct approximately 25 draws in 2015. Future draws are expected to be larger and include individuals who do not have a job offer or provincial nomination.
