Open Work Permit Pilot Program for Spouses Immigration Applicants

On December 2014 – Citizenship and Immigration Canada news announced that applicants who have already submitted their permanent residency application under Spouses or Common-Law Partners in Canada Class have the opportunity to take advantage of the Open Work Permit Pilot Program.

Applicants will have the opportunity to work for any Canadian employer while their SCLPC application is being processed. Many applicants have been benefited from this new opportunity in the past few months. This pilot program makes sure that applicants don’t require making a chose between having the ability to work and being with their family. While applicants’ permanent residency applications are being processed, this program also has another advantage which is being eligible to be covered by provincial health programs.

If applicants, who have submitted their permanent residency application before December 22nd 2014, have received an approval are able to apply for this Open Work Permit Pilot Program. While others must submit both their Spouses or Common-Law Partners in Canada Class and open work permit application at the same time. Open work applications will take approximately four months to be processed.

“This pilot program has allowed many residents-to-be to provide for their families and contribute to Canada’s economy at the same time, giving them an opportunity to enter the Canadian labour market and society,” says Attorney David Cohen.
