Quebec Immigration employee was charged with bribing activities

One of Quebec immigration officers was charged with cheating the government and mistreatment of confidence, on allegations he requested large sums of money to speed immigration cases.

Stefan Constantinescu, an employee of the ministry of Immigration Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) in department responsible processing applications received from Foreign Skilled workers, appeared at the Laval courthouse Tuesday to face charges and was released on bail.

An investigation by Quebec’s permanent anti-corruption squad UPAC alleges the violations occurred between October 2013 and February 2016.

Under Quebec law, no monetary transactions are permitted for immigration application processing.
