Canada’s Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen, played up the positive impact of immigrants and refugees on the country and its economy in an address this week to international immigration experts gathered in the nation’s capital city, Ottawa.

Between 2011 and 2016, Atlantic Canada experienced the weakest population growth in the country. This was due in part to the region’s low intake of immigrants.

Atlantic Canada’s incredible immigration run continued in 2019 as the region welcomed nearly 18,000 newcomers.

On march 4th ,Canada is extending its Atlantic Immigration Pilot to December 2021 in a bid to maintain the program’s momentum, the federal government has announced.  

Provincial nominee programs in PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick playing key roles

Canada’s recent decision to remove the 50 or 200 CRS points for arranged employment has sparked discussion, but job offers remain important in the immigration process.

Immigration is vital to the future of communities across the country, and nowhere more so than in Atlantic Canada. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot welcomed over 12,700 newcomers across the region, strengthening our communities and helping our businesses succeed. We announced the new permanent Atlantic Immigration Program, recognizing the need to build on this success as we continue to recover from the pandemic and address labour shortages across Atlantic Canada.

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should develop and publicly release within 120 days following the adoption of this motion a comprehensive plan to expand the economic immigration stream to allow workers of all skill levels to meet the full range of labour needs and pathways to permanent residency for temporary foreign workers, including international students, with significant Canadian work experience in sectors with persistent labour shortages, and such plan should incorporate the following elements:

New Brunswick has reached its 2025 cap for the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) and will no longer accept new endorsement applications. Submissions made on or before April 4 will still be processed.

The New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) has stopped endorsing several occupations under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), effective immediately. Employers can no longer support foreign nationals for PR through the AIP for the following occupations:
