Many provincial immigration streams target candidates with work experience in a specific occupation
Immigration candidates with work experience in any skilled occupation may be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through Canada’s Express Entry system, but experience in a specific line of work can be an advantage at the provincial level.

The Canadian government uses the CRS to score and rank Express Entry candidates.

A new Express Entry draw held August 22 has issued a total of 3,750 invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score in this draw was 440. This is the third draw in 2018 to feature a minimum score of 440, which is the lowest CRS score drawn in 2018 to date. Both the minimum CRS score and the draw size in the August 22 were the same as the previous draw, held on August 8.

“There are elements that are positive in the bill,” Liberal Dominique Anglade says. But "there are elements that are very detrimental."

EDMONTON - International students in Alberta are seeing wait times for processing their study permits soar to nearly three months, leaving many “stranded” in Canada, unable to visit their home countries or travel elsewhere in the world. Students can’t leave the country without renewing their permits and visas without risking lengthy delays upon re-entry, jeopardizing their standing in university programs where many have studied for several years.

The province of Manitoba held its third Expression of Interest draw in less than three weeks on March 1, inviting 403 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.  
The invitations brought the number issued so far this year by the province MPNP program to 2,267 issued invitations.

Applicants invited had an Expression of Interest with the province under its Skilled Worker Overseas or as an International education stream.

Canada has started issuing open work permits to spouses of Canadian Citizens and Residents as they await Permanent residence through spousal sponsorship program

The changes, which came into effect as of January 2015 as a pilot project for a period of one year , will allow the spouses and common-law partners of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are urrently residing in Canada to benefit from expedited access to open work permits while their applications for permanent residence are being processed. Eligible applicants will now be able to apply for an open work ermit before the approval in principle decision is made on their application for permanent residence in Canada. Applicants whose permanent resident applications are received after December 22, 2014 will have heir application for an open work permit processed within four months of receipt of their work permit application. An open work permit allows applicants to work for any employer for a specified period of time hile their permanent residence applications are processed.

New statistics from French Consulate in Montreal indicates that there could be over 110,000 French citizens currently living in Montreal. According to the French Consulate estimation, approximately one in two French immigrants register, and 55,000 had done so by 2013. This represents an increase of 45 per cent since 2005.
