Could Express Entry Draws Temporarily Pause This Fall?

Major changes to Express Entry are approaching, and they could affect the rhythm of invitation rounds later this year.

IRCC is considering significant changes to the Comprehensive Ranking System, including revisions to bonus points for Canadian education, French-language ability, siblings in Canada and accompanying spouses. New points for Canadian experience or job offers in certain high-wage occupations are also being considered.

Because changes of this scale can require thousands of existing Express Entry profiles to be recalculated, there is speculation that IRCC could temporarily pause or slow down draws while the system is updated. Similar interruptions have happened during previous major Express Entry changes.

However, IRCC has not announced that draws will be paused, and the proposed CRS changes have not yet been finalized.

For candidates, the main takeaway is that the Express Entry landscape could look different in the coming months, making it especially important to keep profiles, language results and other information up to date.
